MDA Sponsors First Morgan Regional Dressage Championships

The Morgan Dressage Association sponsored the breed’s first nationwide Regional Dressage Championships in summer 2000 at three Morgan championship shows with strong United States Dressage Federation recognized divisions. The MDA West Coast Championships were held June 20 at the Far West Morgan Regional Championship Horse Show in Oregon; the MDA Mid-States Championship were held July 16 at the Circle J Morgan Regional Show in Colorado and the MDA East Coast Championships were Aug. 12 at the Mid-Atlantic Morgan Regional in Pennsylvania.

“These MDA championships were designed, in part, to encourage the best Morgans in dressage to compete at these Morgan Regional Shows,” explained MDA Co-Chair Paula Hagen-Peterson. “The level of dressage competition at these shows has been growing every year. These three championships will recognize the excellent performances in dressage that can be found in many our of breed shows.”

To qualify for the championships horses competed in the highest test of the level and met a minimum qualifying score of 55%. Scores were taken from Open, Adult Amateur, and Jr./Young Rider divisions if those were offered and the awards were given to the two single highest scoring rides.
