About the Morgan Dressage Association
The Morgan Dressage Association is a national organization that helps support the needs of horsemen and women who are interested in training, competing, breeding and promoting Morgans in one of the fastest growing equine sports – dressage. Morgans are making their mark in this exciting and exacting sport and they are increasingly being seen as wonderful dressage mounts, especially suited by temperament, size and athleticism for juniors and serious amateur competitors. The MDA is a National Service Organization of the American Morgan Horse Association with members from across the United States and Canada. Its Board of Directors includes United States Dressage Federation All-Breeds Award winners through Grand Prix, AMHA Open Competition Winners, USDF Regional Champions and other enthusiastic riders and breeders. “We’re all dedicated to helping others enjoy Morgans in dressage and to raising the profile of the breed in the sport,” said former board member Barb Putnam of Iowa, who has won numerous USDF All-Breeds Awards through Prix St. Georges with her talented 16.2 hand blue-roan Morgan gelding Caduceus Herod. “Morgans can be wonderful dressage horses. As a breed they have athleticism, superb dispositions, great heart and soundness – all attributes needed in dressage. It’s a growing segment of the breed and Morgans are becoming increasingly recognized and successful in the sport.” Among other activities, the group publishes an annual membership directory, recognizes excellence through year-end awards and regional championship awards, produces educational articles geared to helping dressage riders with their Morgans in the sport, sponsors scholarships for MDA members competing or learning dressage on their Morgans, generates favorable publicity about Morgan dressage mounts, and produces a quarterly newsletter. In addition to this web site, MDA sponsors Yahoo Groups e-mail list serve which has almost 900 members who discuss dressage, Morgans, and the combination of the two. To subscribe, go to the Yahoo Groups Web site and follow the directions. To join MDA go to Membership.
